Southwark Educational Maintenance Supplement (SEMS) - Currently under review

Southwark Council believes strongly in helping young people to fulfil their potential, however the council also recognises that some of you may have concerns regarding your personal finances if you stay at school, go to college or attend a training provider. In 2011 Southwark Council introduced the Southwark Educational Maintenance Supplement (SEMS) which helps to provide financial support for eligible Southwark Residents staying on in education or training.

The criteria for receiving the SEMS is as follows:

  • You are 16-18 years old
  • Resident in Southwark
  • Eligible for free school meals
  • Not receiving the £1,200 entitlement under the national 16 to 18 bursary scheme

If you meet the above criteria, then contact your school, college or training provider about possible funding from Southwark Council.
