View our current adult learning course guide for details of our courses, call 020 7358 2100 for information on how to enrol or drop in at Thomas Calton Centre Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm or Monday and Wednesday evenings 6pm to 8.30pm during term time and open house week. Proof of identity and evidence of entitlement to any concessionary fee are required when you enrol.

Throughout 2016/17 we will be having open house weeks one week prior to the start of courses.

Spring term OPEN HOUSE week: 9 January 2017 to 13 January 2017

This will give you the chance to meet curriculum staff who can give you advice and guidance. You should attend on the day and time of the course that interests you (NB for Tuesday and Thursday evening woodwork classes please attend on Monday or Wednesday evening).

Choose from a wide variety of classes, both day and evening, including classes that develop practical skills like woodwork, lampshade making, fitness and dance, fashion and pottery as well as employability and confidence building classes, CV writing, help with English speaking and writing, basic maths and literacy skills. Gain a City and Guilds, OCR, or other qualifications in childcare, food safety in catering and more.

Childcare courses: advice, guidance and enrolment

To enrol on childcare courses you will need to attend one of our childcare open days where you will receive advice, guidance and a skills check.

Basic skills consultations

ESOL - Monday 10am-12pm and 1-2.30pm

Enrolment times are Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, Monday and Wednesday evenings, 6pm to 8pm (term time only).


Fees for each course are shown in the course listings of the adult learning course guide. Course fees, exam fees and materials fees are due on enrolment.

The standard fee for learners not receiving a means tested benefit is £4.00 per hour. The concessionary fee for learners on a means-tested benefit is £2.00 per hour. All students (except those on basic skills and family learning classes) pay an annual non-refundable registration fee of £5.

No cost to learner (full fee remission)

For 2016/17 the following groups of learners are eligible for full fee remission. This means these learners will be fully funded by the Skills Funding Agency and will not have to pay any fees for some courses.

  • Those studying basic skills literacy and numeracy courses and family learning programmes
  • Those in receipt of active or unemployment benefits will not have to pay any fees to studyESOL, vocational qualification courses, full level 2 qualification courses or other level 2 courses. 
  • Learners who are not on active benefits or unemployment benefits who are aged 19 to 23 and are studying vocational qualification courses, their first full level 2 qualification course (excluding ESOL) will not have to pay any fees for those courses

People receiving the following benefits are eligible for a concessionary rate: 

Active benefits

  • Job Seekers Allowance (JSA)
  • Employment and Support Allowance in the Work Related Activity Group (ESA WRAG)
  • Universal credit (UC)

Other means tested benefits

  • Council tax benefit
  • Housing benefit
  • Income support
  • Working tax credit
  • Pension credit guarantee
  • Contribution-based ESA (non WRAG)
  • Unwaged dependent on one of the above

    Retired learners whose only source of income is the state pension are eligible for a concessionary fee if they are also receiving one of the benefits listed above. Please bring proof of benefit or entitlement with you when you enrol. We can not accept freedom travel passes as proof of eligibility.
