Filming in Southwark

Bermondsey Street becomes New York, with yellow taxi as filming takes place.

London is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world; many people say they choose to visit London because they have seen it at the cinema or on television. London has the third largest film and TV industry in the world, employing some 100,000 people.

Southwark Film Office has been operating since 2005, during which time Southwark has been recognised by the film industry as one of the most efficient boroughs for filming whilst minimising disruption and inconvenience to its residents, businesses and visitors.

Southwark is now the second busiest borough in London for film-making with around 1500 filming days per year.

Southwark has a lot of filming going on in the streets and has been a location for some high profile films and series like 'Doctor Who' and 'Harry Potter', to gritty dramas like 'Spooks' and 'Luther', from adverts for Ford, Sainsbury's and  pop videos for N-Dubz and Madonna....it all happens here.

What we do

Southwark Film Offices help filmmakers and photographers find the best locations.

With iconic views across the River Thames to Canary Wharf, Tower Bridge and St. Paul's Cathedral, the urban locations of Elephant and Castle and Peckham and the beautiful Dulwich Village and Peckham Rye there really is something for all productions.

So if you are looking for a location or you need some advice about where to shoot in Southwark, simply call the Southwark Film Office on 0207 620 0391 and speak to someone who has in-depth knowledge of the borough.

On the river, Southwark begins at the Oxo Tower in the west, and continues to Greenland Dock in Rotherhithe in the east. Southwark extends south to Dulwich and Honor Oak.

Working hard

Southwark Film Office work hard to minimise disruption so residents and businesses feel as little impact as possible.

Although we understand that for large scale filming this can be difficult we work closely with tenants and residents associations, local businesses and organisations to ensure we reduce disturbance to a minimum.
