Early help service

Getting help from Early Help

How do I access the Early Help service?

You may have concerns about your child or concerns may be brought to your attention by some-one working with your child. This might include teachers, nursery staff or your health visitor.

These practitioners will work with you to address these concerns. If more support is needed the people working with you and your child can make a request for involvement from those staff within Early Help. Your consent is usually required to request our involvement.

What can we offer?

  • Telephone help desk support to families, schools, early years settings and other agencies.
  • Advice and support to schools and settings at a strategic level to secure good outcomes for children and families, and to secure good inspection outcomes (e.g. improving attendance, reducing exclusions)
  • Training for staff in schools and early years settings (e.g. common assessment framework, safeguarding, emotional development).
  • Pre-referral consultative support to schools and early years settings (e.g. Team Around the School to consider issues across the school and identify specific areas for targeted intervention).
  • Case work with children, young people and families referred via common assessment framework.

What happens next?

We will ask you to help us find out what you need as a family, and help you plan to achieve this.

This "common assessment" process can result in a single plan so that everyone involved knows exactly what they are doing to support you and your family. A single person will coordinate and we will regularly review the plan to see whether it is helping to meet your needs.

Things that may be included in a single plan could be to provide you with advice and/or guidance, or it may mean involving different services to support you and your family.
