Welcome to our new website!

You’ve probably noticed that things have changed a bit. We haven’t finished updating all our pages yet, so some sections are still using this design. Please bear with us...

Southwark is a wonderful place to walk. And what better way to get around than one that is sociable and free? Whether you’re a motivated walker, or need a little extra encouragement, the aim of this information is to encourage you to spend more time on your feet exploring Southwark.

Whether you fancy a stroll in the park, a walk to work, or a full day on your feet there are plenty of options.

We've done the leg work by bringing the details of almost 100 routes created by walking enthusiasts across the borough into one place – which means that, with the help of these pages, going for a local walk really is as simple as putting one foot in front of the other.

You can also download the full screen map.

We know that worries about getting lost can be a barrier to walking for some people. If you’re new to walking, a free guided walking group could be a good start, and if you’re a seasoned walker some of the self led routes listed here could be right up your street.

We’ve mapped starting points for almost 100 walks across Southwark including:

In addition we've gathered a list of links to paid walking tours that run through Southwark and can also point you to some sites that could help if you'd rather plan your own walking adventure.

If the walking bug bites you, joining a local walking club is another great way to discover new routes and meet new people.

The council and partners are investing time and money in improving local walking environments to help make walking more attractive. Go to 'Making Better Streets for Walking' where you can read about examples of these improvements.

If you'd like to get more involved in creating better streets for walking in the borough, you can get involved with the Southwark group of Living Streets.
