Please remember to provide us with the trading name or your premises.

*After submitting the application, email licensing@southwark.gov.uk to request an A3 blue poster.
·  The date of application stated on the notice must be the date that the notice is displayed at the premises.
·  The notice must be printed on blue paper.
·   It is your responsibility as an applicant to ensure that the notice is properly displayed and clearly legible for the duration of the 28 day consultation period.
·  You may wish to laminate the notice (if it is being displayed outside) so that it is weather proof.
·   Please take into account shutters at your premises may obscure the notice, so please display outside.

You will need to advertise in a local newspaper within 10 working days of submitting the application.

 Personal licences

Licence length

The licence will be issued with a 10 year date, however the licence does not expire after this time. Once the 10 year date passes, you do not need to take any action. The licence remains permanently valid due to the Deregulation Act 2015.

  • The requirement to renew personal licences has been abolished with effect from 1 April 2015

Personal Licence applications can only be made by individuals who have successfully completed an accredited qualification. Five courses are currently accredited:

The National Certificate for Personal Licence Holder courses are no longer accredited, and should not be taken. Certificates issued before the accreditation expired may still be used to apply for a Personal Licence for a limited time.

For more information about these courses, including details of local training centres, please contact the examining bodies.

  • Applications must be made to the local authority for the area in which the applicant lives, so we can only accept applications from persons living within the London Borough of Southwark. We may also accept applications from persons who do not live in England or Wales - however, we advise that you contact us prior to making your application to ensure that you follow the correct procedure. payment of the application fee (£37)
  • two passport photos, one of which has been endorsed (by a solicitor, notary, a person of standing in the community or an individual with a professional qualification) with a statement that the photo is a true likeness of the applicant
  • the certificate issued after passing the accredited training course
  • a completed 'Disclosure of Criminal Convictions' form (supplied with the application form)
  • a criminal record certificate, issued within the last month, such as a Basic Disclosure or a Subject Access Search of the Police National Computer
