Community restoration fund application criteria

Supporting Business Growth Applications

The business element of the Community Restoration Fund is focused on making improvements to high streets and town centres in Southwark to make them more attractive places to shop and spend time and encouraging businesses to work together to improve their local area.

During April and May 2012, local businesses and business organisations were invited to submit bids to the fund.

Criteria

For the business element of the fund, proposals were encouraged which supported one or more of the following criteria:

  • Attracting more people to shop locally and increasing the amount that they spend in the area
  • Helping businesses to adapt and innovate during times of difficult economic circumstances and changing high streets
  • Helping businesses to work together to share ideas and make best use of resources to increase economic growth in their area

Eligibility

Any local organisations that met the following criteria were eligible for CRF:

  • A business wholly or partly located within Southwark
  • An organisation or group of organisations representing the interests of a group of businesses in Southwark
  • Any deliverer of business support services in/for Southwark

The fund is not designed to support physical improvements to individual shops or business. However, the council can advise on where such funding could be available.

Assessment process

The bids received were reviewed by a panel of officers and assessed against the criteria listed above. Following this process, eight projects were recommended for funding by the panel to the cabinet member for communities and economic development. Please see the cabinet member decision for further information.
