Southwark Resource Centre

The SRC is an independent living centre for adults with disabilities.

Our aim is to provide outcome focused support to adults with physical disabilities, which would enable them to live as active citizens in their local community.

Teams based within the SRC are:-

  • Independent Living Team
  • Telecare Team
  • Sensory Impairment Team

Working both in the Southwark Resource Centre and out in the community, we help disabled adults live more independent lives and can support and encourage people to realise their potential.  This can be by helping them with anything from everyday tasks to achieving goals, such as

  • Returning to education
  • Employment opportunities
  • Training
  • Improving confidence and developing skills
  • Independent travel
  • Discovering new hobbies and interests.

About us

We work to promote and enable independent living by providing:

  • Access to community services and opportunities
  • User led social and support groups
  • Outcome focused centre based activities.

This contributes to the Council's Fairer Future promised to support vulnerable people to live independent, safe and healthy lives by giving them more choice and control over their care.

  • What we do

Each individual is allocated a key worker to work with them to help identify any goals or areas of support required.  The key worker will provide help and support in developing any ideas you have and identify a plan to help you work towards your goals.  We achieve these aims by:

Giving appropriate support, enabling people to continue playing an active part in their local community and to access opportunities that enhance and maintain their quality of life.  Support people to have the confidence and skills to better manage their condition and find strategies that maximise their independence.

Encouraging the use of personal budgets to maximise people's choice and control over their lives and providing advice and support in developing support plans that meet their needs.

  • Day opportunities and long term support

We offer a range of activities for people with complex physical, disabilities.  We also work with individuals and carers where possible to identify alternative day opportunities and respite options; engaging with other services and voluntary sector and exploring the use of personal budgets.

  • Social inclusion and independence

This involves working with individuals to identify goals and areas of development, including skill development and community engagement.  This work is time specific and not long term.

  • Maintenance and exercise/ wellbeing

A programme of physical exercise and activities including support to access local facilities, exercise groups or supporting the use of specialist equipment at the Southwark Resource Centre.

  • How to make a referral

Services offered by the independent living team are for eligible customers only, according to Southwark's fair access to care service (FACS) eligibility criteria.  Referrals may be made by an allocated social worker, by a support planner or self referrals can be mad by individuals receiving a personal budget.
