Welcome to our new website!

You’ve probably noticed that things have changed a bit. We haven’t finished updating all our pages yet, so some sections are still using this design. Please bear with us...

Fraud

Fraud against the Council is stealing from your friends, family and the community. Fraud deprives vital services of the resources they require; it is not a victimless crime and impacts on us all.

The National Fraud Authority estimates the losses through fraud to Local Government as £2.2 billion.

The Council has a range of controls in place to prevent, detect and investigate all types of fraud. We also rely on the vigilance of the local community to help us detect the fraudsters.

The Council's anti-fraud team investigates all offences committed against the Council. For information on the types of fraud please see the links below.

Bribery

We are committed to the prevention, deterrence and detection of bribery. We have zero-tolerance towards bribery. We aim to maintain anti-bribery compliance "business as usual', rather than as a one-off exercise.

Data Matching

It is important that you are aware, that Southwark Council undertakes local anti-fraud initiatives on a regular basis using data matching, which can be done without the consent of the individuals concerned under the Data Protection Act 1998. For further information on data matching please click here.
