Peckham Christmas Market arrives in Southwark this weekend
Published Thursday, 13 December 2012
Peckham Christmas Market takes place on Saturday 15 December 2012, featuring 25 market stalls with a dazzling range of arts and crafts, foods and decorations.
The festive market takes place on Peckham Square and is organised by Southwark Council and the Peckham Town Team.
Funded by the council’s Community Restoration Fund, the market brings together market traders from across the borough and includes stalls from local store owners. The market aims to provide residents with all their festive necessities right in time for Christmas.
Councillor Claire Hickson, Cabinet Member of Communities and Economic Wellbeing said: "Peckham's vibrant and eclectic atmosphere makes it the perfect place for one of Southwark’s biggest Christmas Markets."
"The market is exactly the kind of project we hoped the Community Restoration Fund would be able to deliver. The event not only enriches the lives residents but it also creates good feeling and cheer within the community. It's also a great way to contribute to the local economy. Local traders and shop owners can use this as an opportunity to attract new customers and network with other traders."
Danielle Hurley, owner of the recently opened Ellie’s Bakehouse in Peckham one of the local stores to be holding a stall at the market said:
"I have chosen to take part in this Christmas market as I think it is an excellent way to meet other local traders in the area. Since opening my artisan bakery and cake shop on Choumert Road I have been overwhelmed by the support and positive reaction of local residents and other traders.'
Set up earlier this year, the Community Restoration Fund endeavours to develop community cohesion and support businesses and young people in the borough to unlock their potential.
