Canada Water library set to open on Monday 28 November

Published Thursday, 24 November 2011

A brand new multi-million pound library is to open in Southwark which council bosses say is the shape of libraries to come.

The opening of the new Canada Water library will take place at 10.00am on Monday 28 November.

It is the first time that a London library has had a 150-seat theatre space designed within it, as well as the first time that an entrance and exit to a tube station has been built within the design of a library.

Designed by world renowned architect Piers Gough, from CZWG architects, it expands outwards from a small footprint into an inverted pyramid which overhangs the former Canada Water basin.

The 2,600+ sq m. library will form part of a 'civic hub' lying at the heart of a regeneration programme that includes nearly 2,000 homes and new shopping, roads and community and green spaces.

How to get to the library
